Cooperatives on TV in opposition to ‘Big Oil’ Tax
Madison, Wis. (March 26, 2009) – Ads opposing the "Big Oil” tax proposal in Governor Doyle’s budget begin airing Thursday in four Wisconsin TV markets, Cooperative Network has announced.
In the spot, Mosinee area farmer and cooperative member Dennis Cihlar says “The politicians in state government should think harder about how legislation affects us back home. Take the franchise fee. They say it’s a tax on big oil, but it’s really a hidden tax on us.”
The 30-second TV spot will air in the La Crosse, Eau Claire, Rhinelander, and Wausau television markets over the next two weeks, and is posted HERE.
Cihlar urges viewers to contact their state legislators to vote no to the oil franchise tax.
“The proposed tax would drain away patronage credits paid by local cooperatives to their members, siphoning that money out of the local economy,” said Cooperative Network President and CEO Bill Oemichen. |
