Cooperative Network Hails Finance Committee vote for Dairy Tax Credit

MADISON, Wis. (April 8, 2010) –  The Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee voted Wednesday 15-0 in support of legislation extending the Dairy Investment Tax Credit (DITC) for two years. The credits are aimed at encouraging continued growth of Wisconsin’s agricultural economy, and are nearly identical to legislation previously championed by Cooperative Network.

“Cooperative Network has worked with our elected officials on the DITC since its inception,” said Oemichen. “Thankfully, our elected officials continue to keep our state’s dairy industry as a top priority. Agriculture is a vital part of the state's economy and one of the few growing sectors in a struggling overall economy.”

The legislation (AB 756) was requested by Governor Jim Doyle in his State of the State address in January. The credit had previously received a unanimous recommendation from the Assembly Committee on Agriculture. The bill is on the Assembly calendar for Tuesday April 13, 2010.
