SB9 Signed into Law

In a machine shed at the Haag family farm, Dane, WI, Gov. Scott Walker signed into law SB 9, which extends the successful Dairy and Livestock Farm Investment Tax Credit for five years. Walker thanked Cooperative Network for its efforts on behalf of the legislation, which builds on legislation originally created by Cooperative Network in 2003. Senator Dan Kapanke (R-La Crosse), Senate author of the bill, was not present.

Legislation introduced to raise limit
for Small Claims Court

Legislation has been introduced that would increase the jurisdictional limit for Small Claims Court filings from $5,000 to $10,000. The Cooperative Network-backed legislation is authored by Rep. Joan Ballweg (R-Markesan). Nineteen Assembly colleagues of Rep. Ballweg have signed onto the legislation. They are Representatives Kathy Bernier (R-Chippewa Falls), Janet Bewley (D-Ashland), Ed Brooks (R-Reedsburg), Chris Danou (D-Trempealeau), Mark Honadel (R-South Milwaukee), Dan LeMahieu (R-Cascade), Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green), Jeff Mursau (R-Crivitz), Al Ott (R-Forest Junction), Lee Nerison (R-Westby), Kevin Petersen (R-Waupaca), Jerry Petrowski (R-Marathon), Keith Ripp (R-Lodi), Roger Rivard (R-Rice Lake), Richard Spanbauer (R-Oshkosh), Karl Van Roy (R-Green Bay), Robin Vos (R-Racine), Evan Wynn (R-Whitewater), and Bob Ziegelbauer (I-Manitowoc). Five Senators indicated support by signing onto the bill, including Senator Terry Moulton (R-Chippewa Falls), the lead Senate sponsor of the bill, who has introduced identical companion legislation, SB 70. Other Senate supporters are Senators Dave Hansen (D-Green Bay), Julie Lassa (D-Stevens Point), Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin), and Dale Schultz (R-Richland Center). SB 70 has been referred to the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Utilities, Commerce and Government Operations.
