About Us

Cooperative Network has taken on one of the biggest problems facing our state: the high cost of health insurance. By working hand in hand with elected officials, agricultural producers, cooperatives, and small businesses around the state we were successful in creating “Co-op Care”.   Co-op Care is a project designed to create health insurance purchasing cooperatives focused mainly on famers and their families, rural communities, and small businesses throughout Wisconsin.

Our Objective

Although it may not be possible to reduce everyone’s current insurance premiums, our goals are as follows:

  • To allow the members of a purchasing cooperative to band together to purchase insurance - insurance that is a better value than one could purchase alone
  • To provide cooperative members with a comprehensive health plan that includes coverage for preventive care and prescription drugs
  • To provide cooperative members with rate stabilization
  • To advance quality measurement and consumerism in health care purchasing decisions

To date a number of health care purchasing cooperatives have been formed through Wisconsin.  These cooperatives are serving farmers, physicians, school districts, small business, and individuals through combined purchasing power, greater control over health care decisions, and a focus on health and wellness.  To learn more about these cooperatives CLICK HERE.(link to the Cooperatives tab)

In Summary...

Health care is a problem the state of Wisconsin must resolve to sustain not only our farm economy and the rural communities that depend on agriculture, but the economic viability of the state as a whole. We have a unique opportunity with Co-op Care to turn the tide on health care costs.  We recognize the special challenges we face. As with all cooperative development projects, we need to build slowly so the new health cooperatives don’t collapse under their own weight. And, we realize the critical importance of potential cooperative members being committed to the idea of buying health insurance through a cooperative. Without that commitment, the new health care cooperatives will have a difficult time reaching their full potential and buying power.
